From garden to paper: How nature inspires my work
Share
It’s been a busy couple of months for Pixiecraft as I have created over 60 new pieces of work all inspired by the nature around me. From my new British garden bird prints and stickers to the nature explorer cards, nature is sneaking in everywhere here right now (much like the 800000 aphids who have taken up residence in my garden and keep appearing everywhere all of the time).
There really is no greater inspiration than the nature around us and never more so than at this time of year! The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing and there are new colours and textures popping up everywhere.

I am a keen gardener and my garden is now bursting to the brim with flowers, vegetables and fruits in every spare bit of space. It is becoming. It is a bit of a running joke in our household now that if it stays still long enough I’ll figure out how to plant something in it.
Gardening, like art is such a fantastic way to take a moment to breathe and relax, it’s immensely satisfying to watch your work bloom into something beautiful (and often edible in my garden at least!). Like art is full of ups and downs, trial by error and more than a few fails… I am looking at you slugs who appear to think my garden is an excellent all you can eat buffet.
As I tend to my garden I have spent time looking at the little details that make up all the different plants growing, the shapes of leaves and petals, the colours that can vary so wildly even on the same types of plants and the way they respond to the environment around them. This drew me further into exploring how I could bring those little details into my work.
This abundance of life is the inspiration behind my newest colouring book which has just opened for pre-orders. Blooming lovely: the language of flowers combines the relaxation of colouring with a little education into the under appreciated hidden meanings behind different flowers. Across twenty new hand drawn pages you learn all about the communication behind flowers.

Now is the perfect time to explore my nature collection and get exploring the great outdoors near you whether you are in the middle of a city or roaming the countryside there is always something wonderful to discover.
Happy adventuring!
